Where’s the Compassion on the Campaign Trail?
We should be welcoming Syrian refugees, not spreading fear and misinformation about them.
There’s one topic that has been all over the news recently, but has barely been mentioned in the presidential primary debates thus far: How would candidates respond to the global refugee crisis?
The refugee crisis is the worst humanitarian crisis since World War II. The U.S. response should be a top political issue in the presidential race, and I hope to soon hear candidates articulate a plan for strong American leadership in addressing this pressing global reality.
Worldwide, there are almost 60 million individuals who have been forcibly displaced from their homes. About 20 million have been forced to flee to another country, including 4 million fleeing the conflict in Syria alone. A full half of the Syrian population has been forced to flee their homes…
